It was actually on the 8th that Kurt was found, therefore that's the date I've always remembered. I guess to me it shows that he was there for 3 days, kinda like Jesus, kinda like Layne, having 3 days of peace before, once again, he was the center of the worlds attention, one last time.

April 8th, 1994

I was having a really bad day at school, I was in 9th grade. Pearl Jam being my favorite band, I always kept up with the Seattle happenings, especially Nirvana. I never really believed the media driven "disharmony" between Ed & Kurt.

Anyways, Our school had an A lunch and B lunch. I had Science class while all my "Stoner"/"Music" friends were at A lunch. We were having a Lettuce Catsup day, ("let us catch up") in class, so I hid at the back, listening to LA radio station KROQ on the headphones I wasn't supposed to even have at school.

'Disarm' by The Smashing Pumpkins came on and the tone of that song fit my mood perfectly. About halfway through the song, the airwaves fall silent. I turn up the volume to see if I did something or if the station slipped.

Then Jed The Fish, a dj that isn't usually in until 3 or 4, speaks up and says:

"Hi. This is Jed. We have some bad news for you all. We have everyone in the station right now. I don't really know how to tell you this so I'll just read you the press release...

This morning in Seattle, an electrician found a white male's body in the room above the garage of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's home. Officials are assuming that it is Kurt's body however dental records will need to be obtained for examination. Kurt died of an apparent self inflicted shotgun blast to the head..........."

The rest was a blur. I got out of my seat with a look of shock and tears in my eyes and walked out of class to A lunch to tell my friends. Everyone was devestated. News got around the entire school by the end of the day and we all sat at the front of the school singing Nirvana songs while waiting to be picked up by our parents.

Only days before, while Kurt was still MIA, Pearl Jam played a show at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA. Before playing Go, Ed said, "This is for Kurt." The repeated lyrics are, "Don't go on me...."

Tori Amos had been covering a haunting version of Smells Like Teen Spirit for years and at a show in Florida on April 18th I believe, she said the following:

"We were on Bourbon [St.] when we heard about this... And I don't think we really understand what this means yet. I don't think we will understand until 5 years from now.... when there's nothing..... from him...."

>Intro of American Pie< "In the streets, the children screamed, lovers cried and the poets dreamed, not a word was spoken, the church bells all were broken, the day the music died..."

>Smells Like Teen Spirit<

We could all play the "what if" game until we die. We can look around and see the state of music today and imagine how much better it could be, if today ten years ago was different. I always wonder if the kids in Jr. High today even understand what it was like 10 years ago. Some do.

I had a student for 6 weeks that is a huge Nirvana fan. I knew this at the beginning but got distracted by her love for Mindless Self Indulgence. At the end of my time subbing her class, I had all the kids write me notes about what they learned while I was there. This is hers:

On the front is a picture of an empty stage and the quote "It's better to bun out than fade away"

Inside:

Miss Mitchell,

You are the best sub/teacher I've ever had! We share so many interests it's crazy! MAybe one day the government will realize that the movement is now and we need the truth. [anarchy A] haha. Maybe one day there will be justice 4 Kurt. But I know I'll never have as kool a teacher as you.

[heart] always, Monica

on the left inside is the Nirvana smiley face

Thankz for being a kick @$$ teacher

>really big< Kurt would be Proud!

See... they know. She's an 8th grader. It gives me hope for our future.

However, none of the headlines are linked yet and haven't seen the information anywhere else yet. Keep checking. Comming out of my skin... (And I thought I'd cut back on concerts this year...)

SYNERGY has also announced that the boys ARE in fact performing at the IMPACT awards in Seattle, April 9th.

Los Angeles radio station KROQ does this thing called "World Tour" at the beginning of every year. For example, the first week of the year they'll give away a trip to see radiohead in Japan, the next week might be The White Stripes in Sweden, you get the idea. So driving last night I hear a long list of cities, all over europe and a japan one, and a long fucking kick ass list of band names, one of them being Pearl Jam. So I don't know what this means kids, but keep your ears open...

I know it's been a while since I updated. Bridge School and Santa Barbara sidetracked me and I've been playing catch-up with the only 2 classes I have before I get my bachelor's. My apologies.

I did want to briefly mention that I took an old friend my records the other day, seeing as he's bored and I need a new needle, and the following morning I read his post that says "Yeah. I Like Pearl Jam." full of song quotes and everything. Makes my heart happy.

Then while at his house, his little sister was going through my cds looking for things to burn, and she picked up Yield thinking it was Ani Difranco and said, "Did Eddie Vedder and Ani ever sing together?" ...."well yes, but I don't have it on cd, why?" ....."Cause this sounds like him."

Then last night I pull up to hear Pilate blasting in the garage, where her room is. Is it just me, or do you have a sence of accomplishment when turning people onto great things, especially pj? Like with Nick (the guy) it's like, "I've been telling you this since we met 8 years ago nerd."

Just thought I'd share the growth of our family. I really hope that you're all having a great holiday season. I know it can be difficult for some. Unwanted anniversaries around ever corner. I'm fighting them off myself. But don't lose sight of what you have, try not to focus on what's been lost.

Okay. So many of you have already seen my "Moonrise over Seattle" that I posted a couple days back. I got it from NASA's Picture of the Day site. I first found the site three years ago by accident. At the bottom of the page there is a Calendar section where you can look up pictures from any given day back to June 1995. Well...

My first Pearl Jam show was in San Diego, November 6, 1995. A historic event for me, needless to say. So I look on that date, and guess what the picture is?

Yes. The Binaural artwork! I do not see this as a coincidence, at all. I have no clue what exactly it means, but I thought that it was a really really cool piece of usless information, and I thought I'd share it all with you!

If anyone else was at that show, it now means something (& yet nothing?) to you as well.

I hope the day finds you happy.

After getting in around 3am, I was too excited about the Bridge on $ale and couldn't fall asleep. When I did, I had dreams about sleeping through the alarm and missing out. Nedless to say, I didn't sleep well.

As usual, first available tickets were lawn, and then second nite went on $ale as soon as first nite was sold out. Seats were available for that nite, but I figure, if I'm gonna pack enough to camp on the lawn, might as well be there both nites. That and there's more of a sence of community on the lawn. From my experiences anyway.

So on with the show and vacation! I cannot wait. I refuse to! If there are more linup updates, you can bet your bottom dollar I'll let you know about them.

Also, let me know if you're going to the show, we can have a little (or big) Jamily section!

I'm away from the computer for a day and ALL KINDS of news happens. First off, there's some Pictures of Ed at the Reds/Cubs game thursday nite. I have yet to find some video of the game. (My dad lives in Columbus Ohio, you think he would have taped it for me...) Secondly, I got an e-mail from Clear Cahnnel that says that Counting Crowes are now added to Bridge. I'm excited. Saw them do a private show at The Viper Room on Sunset, and went to the "Yellow Taxicab" Leno taping. Thirdly, it is official that our boys will be releasing Madison Square Garden (nite #1) on DVD November 11th, Vetran's Day. This is particularly cool because I was at both the MSG shows, but wasn't supposed to be at the first one. Particularly amusing story if you want to read about it. Also on November 11th, the Rarities cd will be out. There isn't any information about this yet, but as soon as I hunt it down, I'll let you know. *sidenote* I've been meaning to start something that gives us all interactions with each other. Questions, writing topics, SOMETHING... I said I wanted this to be a place where we all can interact, and we haven't done much of that yet. So my apologies. I started my last quarter of college this week and have been super busy with work. No excuses I know... But soon enough this will become a happening place. I hope you're all having a good day. ~*~ debra

Cubs/Reds Recap
From cubs.com:

"Pearl Jam lead vocalist Eddie Vedder threw out Thursday's ceremonial first pitch. But his baseball-related activities began long before that.

More than three hours before the game, Vedder met with Reds first-base coach Jose Cardenal, his idol since childhood, and took batting practice on the Great American Ball Park field.

As Cardenal pitched to Vedder, the rock star wore a Reds jersey. Later, as the Cubs took batting practice, he sported a Cubs jersey. But he switched back to his Cincinnati top as he threw the first ball -- with Cardenal catching, of course."

I wonder if Corky was the catcher behind Eddie... someday... someday...

giventowail.com pointed me in the right direction in which I found this on the Shoreline Ampitheatre's website:

Bridge School Benefit - 17th Annual
Featuring: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Willie Nelson, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Wilco, Dashboard Confessional

October 25, 2003 - 5:00PM

On Sale September 28, 2003 - 10:00AM
$ 38.75 General Admission
$ 48.75 Reserved

More special guests to be added to the line-up.

Billing of artists and bands listed subject(and most likely) to change!

As usual, more bands will be added, (Please God make them good ones, please?) and so far it looks like on ly one day is going on $ale this weekend. However, I don't think that there will only be one day of Bridge, so I'll keep my ears open. And eyes if you're lucky.

Mtv.com also posted an artcle about ol' Neil's event. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1479271/20030924/incubus.jhtml

Looks interesting so far...

SIDENOTE:

giventowail.com also informed me of the following:

Ed @ Cubs/Reds
This Thursday, Sept 25, Ed will throw out the first pitch at the Cubs vs. Reds game in Cincinatti. The game starts at 7:10 PM and viewers in either Chicago or Cincinatti will be able to watch on their respective Fox Sports channels.

Go watch it, or you'll all perish. This is rather interesting to me as well because a friend of mine, Corky Miller, Catches for the reds. Lucky bastard will probably get to meet Ed before me...

Have a good day.

So we should have all the information about Bridge School Saturday or Sunday. giventowail.com had this to say:

Wilco has been added to the line up for the 2003 Bridge School Benefit.

Also, an important note on ticket sales from an email we received:

"I emailed (named withheld), receptionist at the Bridge School, and she told me 'A concert ad will appear in the Sunday newspapers on 9/28, tickets will go on sale the following week', but did not mention any of the confirmed or unconfirmed acts, but tickets go on sale the weekend after 9/28."

Pollstar's page for Shoreline Ampitheatre shows that Neil and Pearl Jam are the only bands confirmed for Bridge so far. They're usually one step ahead of TicketBastard, who is *supposed* to e-mail me as soon as info for Bridges' on $ale is announced. Cross your fingers.
